Speed Limit to Increase on U.S. 63

MACON – After making several improvements on intersections along U.S. 63, MoDOT will restore the speed limit on the major highway from 65 mph to 70 mph between the Boone and Randolph County line to Kirksville. Motorists can expect to see changeable message boards in place the week of Dec. 31 – Jan. 4 advising them of the change. This change is expected to provide a more consistent driving experience, thus reducing confusion since U.S. 63 is 70 mph from Columbia south. The improvements made at several intersections along US 63 have included rumble strips, stop sign flashers and additional signs being placed to alert motorists of the approaching intersections. In addition to these, future intersection improvements will also be occurring as the result of a road safety audit that was conducted in November. As always, motorists are urged to drive carefully when traveling. It is critical drivers observe all traffic control devices, including stop and yield signs, and obey the speed limit. Motorists are also reminded to reduce speed for the conditions, such as inclement weather.
