Macon Rx Take Back Collection Brings 72 Pounds Of Unwanted Prescriptions

[Macon, MO] – The Macon Police Department, Macon Municipal Utilities and Macon County Public Water Supply District supported by the Missouri Rural Water Association participated in the Annual National Drug Take Back Event organized by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on Saturday, April 26, 2014. This was the sixth event held in Macon.

According to the Macon Police Department Secretary, Modeste Ewing, “We collected 72 pounds of unwanted medications for disposal, several pounds more than our previous collection this past October. If someone has medications they want to get rid of before then, they may call the Macon  Police Department at 660-385-2195 to schedule a drop-off appointment. No  questions asked.”

A total of 420.5 pounds of medication has been collected from Macon residents since beginning the program in October 2011. The purpose of the program is to help prevent accidental drug overdose and misuse/abuse as well as offering a safe way to dispose of medications to avoid contamination to the community’s water supply.

Local authorities plan to hold another DEA organized collection event in the Fall of 2014. The public will be notified when the DEA announces the upcoming collection date.
