Fohey Optimistic About Cardinals Baseball Season

The South Shelby Cardinals, under Coach Brian Fohey, have two games under their belt this season. Although, the games didn’t go as Fohey would have liked, he feels that he has a very determined team, stating, “I see a group that is determined to work hard every day and do whatever is necessary to keep improving. Their attitudes are positive, excited and optimistic about the improvements we can make.”

The team has shown improvement defensively and they hope to put together a stronger defensive game. Fohey stated, “One positive is that I believe we’ve improved as a team defensively. I believe that we can be relatively solid in each facet of the game, but so far we’ve struggled putting all of the pieces together and playing a complete game.”

The Cardinals have three seniors this year; Dawson Wood, Dalton Durbin and Zack Breden. Their first game was against Palmyra on Friday, March 17. The Cardinals lost the game 14-1. On Tuesday evening, March 21, they hosted Madison and fell 24-5. But, Fohey looks for the team to improve as the season progresses. He stated, “As a team, I expect us to continue to improve throughout the year. I think we will be a competitive team that will always play hard, have a positive attitude and represent our school and communities well regardless of whether the score is in our favor or not.”
