PROP 1 Fails in Shelby and Macon Counties

Shelby County voters overwhelmingly defeated Prop. 1, which would have split the South Shelby R-IV school district, with the western half merging with Macon. The vote total in Shelby County was 1426 No and 347 Yes. Monroe County voters in the South Shelby district added 144 No votes, and 15 yes vote.

Over in Macon County, the issue also failed, with 1916 No votes and 1045 yes.

In the only contested Shelby County race, Glenn Eagan defeated Bert Greenwell in the Republican primary for Presiding Commissioner.

Around the area, Cindy O’Laughlin won the Republican primary for State Senator. The vote totals were with 9881 votes. Craig Redmon was second, with 7229, and Nate Walker received 5336 votes, while Lindell Shumake got 4489 votes.

O’Laughlin will face Democrat Crystal Stephens in the fall/

In the State Representative District 5 Republican primary, Louis Riggs received 3069 votes to win, topping Loren Graham with 1617, and Neal Minor with 1024. Riggs will take on Democrat Joe Frese in November

Senator Claire McCaskill will face Josh Hawley in November for the US Senate seat, and Henry Martin, Democrat will face incumbent Republican Sam Graves for the US House District 6 seat.
