A Shelbyville man has been arrested for rape.
William “Thomas” Brown, 39, was arrested on Friday, May 17, 2019 for allegedly entering a residence and raping a woman twice on or about Saturday, May 11, according to court documents.
Brown is accused of pulling and ripping the victim’s underclothing off before the alleged rape. The victim reported Brown was intoxicated at the time, and that Brown returned several hours later and allegedly raped the victim again.
This case is being investigated by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
Shelby County Prosecutor Jordan Force filed one count of rape in the second degree, a Class D felony, on Thursday, May 16. A warrant was issued for Brown’s arrest and he was taken into custody.
Brown is currently being held at the Shelby County Jail on a $50,000 cash only bond.
On Friday, May 24, Brown appeared before Shelby County Associate Circuit Judge Mike Greenwell and asked the court for a bond reduction, which was denied by the Judge after the Prosecutor told the court more charges could be pending.
Brown’s next court appearance will be on Friday, May 31.
Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
