NS Seeking Asphalt Bids
The North Shelby School Board met on Wednesday, January 15. Board President Scot Shively brought the meeting to order.
Public Comment –
The board received several thank you notes from staff members for the Christmas appreciation gifts they received.
Superintendent Report –
North Shelby Superintendent Kim Gaines told the board they had two more candidates for the BOE seats for the April election. Those running to fill the three seats are Shawn McEwen, Keith Killen, Joshlin Yoder, Michael Orr and Jason Pollard.
New Business –
Gaines informed the board about the need for an overlay on everything that is asphalt. The board will be taking bids for this work to be completed in the summer.
The board discussed getting a new football scoreboard. Gaines told the board she will contact providers and bring options to the next board meeting.
The board approved three policy updates and one regulation. Policy 1210 mandates that no school district may start school more than 14 days prior to the first Monday in September. In the past, districts were allowed to do this with board approval. Now, there is no leeway. Policy 2640—Student Use of Tobacco, Alcohol, and Drugs—the addition to this policy now bans Cannabidiol (CBD) products from district premises and at school related activities. Policy and Regulation 4871—Driver Drug Testing-Districts must now register with the Commercial Driver’s License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
High School Principal Report –
North Shelby High School Principal Kerri Greenwell provided the following information to the board:
Third-quarter grade checks are February 7.
Bridgett Bass, Heather Christine and Melissa Smith attended the Teachers as ACT Coaches training in Macon on January 10.
The National Honor Society sponsored by Heather Christine is hosting a blood drive in the elementary gym on February 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Senior Night for winter sports and activities is between varsity games on February 14. The FCCLA Winter Formal will be after the games on February 14.
Elementary Principal Report –
North Shelby Elementary Principal Monica Hinshaw provided the following information to the board:
Second-quarter grade cards were sent home January 8.
A “Kids in Motion” parent café was hosted by P.A.T. on January 17.
Jump Rope for Heart will begin in February.
Donuts with Dad will be February 10.
Executive Session –
In executive session, the board discussed the superintendent’s evaluation and voted to extend the Superintendent’s contract for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years.
