Raiders Defeat Green City, Lose Next Two Games

NS vs. Green City
Monday, February 3
The Raiders (No. 5) played No. 4 Green City in the first round of the La Plata Tournament on Monday, February 3. North Shelby won 63-58.
NS took control early in the game and led 21-11 at the end of the first quarter. NS added 14 points in the second period for a 35-21 half-time advantage.
Green City tallied 17 points in the third quarter and trailed 45-38.
The Gophers went 3-of-4 at the foul line in the first 10 seconds of the final period to narrow North Shelby’s lead to 45-41.
With 3:25 remaining, the score was tied 51-51. Following a Silas Presson basket, Brendyn McDaniel converted on a conventional three-point play pushing the Raiders out to a 56-51 advantage.
In the game’s final minute, Kyle Smith scored three points while Elijah Greenwell and Robert Uhlmeyer each added two as the Raiders improved to 9-9 on the season.
NS vs. Cairo
Thursday, February 6
North Shelby took on No. 1 seed Cairo in the second round of the La Plata Tournament on Thursday, February 6. The Raiders lost 77-49.
Kyle Smith led NS with 12 points. Gus Williams tallied 10.
Cairo outscored the Raiders 19-11 in the first quarter.
Ending the first half, the Gophers had a 41-24 lead.
North Shelby head coach Landon Daniel said, “ The boys played their guts out against a very good and well- coached team in Cairo. I thought that we did some things to make Cairo and Coach (Nic) Zenker do things that they really didn’t want to have to do against us.”
North Shelby scored 25 points in the second half.
“Ultimately, their size and overall talent, though, just wore us down and it was something we just weren’t able to overcome.”
NS vs. Atlanta
Saturday, February 8
NS played Atlanta in the third-place game on Saturday, February 8. The Raiders lost 56-51.
Daniel said, “We went from playing pretty aggressive to allowing Atlanta to push us around and get into our heads defensively to where we were visibly uncomfortable.
“I’ve got to do a better job of getting the guys where they need to be mentally in key situations like this game.”
North Shelby (9-11)took a 24-10 lead in the first quarter.
Ending the first half, the Raiders led 32-25.
Despite the Raiders holding the lead in the third quarter adding 13 points to their advantage,
Atlanta scored 24 points in the fourth and NS scored six.
