New Café Opens in Leonard

By Marlana Smith

Leonard Crossroads Café opened its door on Thursday, February 13.

Owners John and Casie’s daughter, Jacie, came up with the name. The café is located at the three-way in Leonard.

Casie said in June of 2019 they started tearing down the old buildings. She said Johnny Cook did the demolition and John and his cousin, who owns a construction company in Kansas City, put the building up.

A few years ago, Casie did own a restaurant.

“With our outfitting business we out-grew our dining room serving the hunters. We were going to build a building for our hunters, but we decided to just open it up to the public and have a restaurant back in town,” said Casie.

Frala finds it important that Leonard has a café.

“I’ve heard a lot of talk over the years and people asking me to open it again. First I didn’t think it was something I wanted to do, but since my kids are older then it’s easier,” said Casie.

“It’s a new clean facility and we don’t allow smoking inside. Our café is family friendly and everything is homemade,” said Casie.

Frala hopes to have a good lunch crowd everyday.

“During deer season I am hoping to catch a lot of the deer hunters in the area,” said Frala.

Casie said they may be open one weekend a month in the future and maybe one Sunday after church. She said they weren’t sure when it would take effect.

“This spring we are building a covered front porch along the east part of the building.

“We are going have outdoor seating. After some of the home football games we are hoping to open up and have a fire pit for the high school kids to come and enjoy,” said Casie. She is hoping in the next month they will have the porch built on.

Specials are offered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays and Wednesday is just grill and fryer foods.

She also makes homemade desserts. The specials include tacos, fried chicken and catfish. Burgers, salads and wraps can also be enjoyed. A breakfast menu is offered all day.

  The café is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Leonard Crossroads Café Facebook page has their daily specials, special open nights/weekend and the full menu can be viewed.
