Deputy Defends Actions Regarding Shaw Disappearance
By Troy Treasure
Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Ehrenreich responded Thursday to recent social media criticism of him, a colleague and the Sheriff’s Office that found its way published by a county newsletter.
In a Facebook post, Ehrenreich provided a detailed account of his version of events regarding the disappearance and death of Bethel resident Matthew Allen Shaw.
When contacted by the Herald Thursday evening, Ehrenreich stated he would not be immediately available for comment citing a pressing family matter. He did indicate a willingness to speak to the newspaper in the near future.
Shaw, 36, disappeared following a single-vehicle accident at Missouri 168 and County Rd. 255 east of Shelbyville shortly before 10 p.m. on May 15. Shaw was found dead May 29 not far from where witnesses stated he ran into a wooded area.
Missouri Highway Patrol Troop B Sgt. Eric Brown told the Herald Thursday the on-going investigation of Shaw’s death is being handled by the Sheriff’s Office.
