Donald “Doe” Vanskike, age 85, of Shelbyville, MO, passed away Friday, March 26, 2021, at Salt River Community Care in Shelbina, MO.
Doe was born February 29, 1936 in Shelbyville, MO, the son of Rufus Carson and Virginia Lee (Wilcox) Vanskike. He was united into marriage to Nancy Mae Buckman on May 22, 1954 in Shelbina, MO. Doe enjoyed spending time with his coffee crew and bench buddies in Bethel. He was a heavy equipment operator and hobby farmer and loved listening to country music and reading. In his younger years, he enjoyed coon hunting with his friends. Most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his three children, Donald E Vanskike of Longview TX, Peggy Vanskike Helt (Ronnie) of Harrisonville, MO, and Michael Vanskike (Amy) of Shelbyville, MO; six grandchildren, Ben Helt (Sarah) of Raytown, MO, Sarah McDowell (Sam) of Harrisonville, MO, Stephanie Magruder (Brent) of Smithville, MO, and Dandy Vanskike, Rowdy Vanskike and Mackenzie Vanskike (Adam Dodd) of Shelbyville, MO; seven great grandchildren, Zane Helt, Brody Helt, Savannah Helt, Ava Helt, Kooper Magruder, Karter Magruder and Spencer McDowell; and many special nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Nancy on March 23, 2020; two brothers, James Paul and Charles Eugene Vanskike; and one sister, Barbara Mae Vanskike.
Funeral service will be held at 10 am, on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5 pm to 7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Bethel Zion Cemetery, near Bethel, MO. Memorials can be made to the Bethel Zion Cemetery.
