Candace “Candy” June Hipkins, 33, of Shelbina passed away April 8 at her home in Shelbina.
Candy was born on Jan. 11, 1988, the daughter of Loretta (Lori) Hipkins and David Johnston.
Candy is survived by her son, Alexander “Xander” Carpenter of Macon; one sister, Charlene (Jason) Brengle of Shelbina; grandmother, Beverly Hipkins of Shelbina; four half-siblings, Kelly, James, Samantha and Jamie; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Candy was preceded in death by her mother, father, grandfather Charles Hipkins; great-grandma, Julia Scoville and other extended family.
Candy was a 2006 South Shelby graduate. She was not one to play sports, but she loved to sing. She also enjoyed being a part of local plays. Candy worked at the Shelbina nursing home for several years, where she enjoyed caring for her residents. She loved nothing more than playing 11-point pitch, camping at the river, being a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and spending time with her family, especially her son Alex. Alex and Candy shared several memories, especially when attending the Renaissance Festival in Kansas City. Candy will be dearly missed by so many.
Visitation was Tuesday, April 13, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14 at the funeral home, followed by a dinner hosted by the Order of the Eastern Star of Shelbina.
Memorials may be made to Alex’s Education Fund (checks payable to: Alexander Carpenter).
