Caroline Linberger of North Shelby set a new personal record in the long jump while winning first place in the event at the Monroe City Open Track and Field Meet held Monday, April 28.
Linberger set the mark with a leap of 5.01 meters.
“I’ve done long jump since seventh grade but, of course, last year we didn’t have it,” Linberger said. “I think my speed, I’ve been able to increase that and that’s helped me jump farther. Get my legs up higher. I’ve improved a lot.”
In other events, Whitney Shinn had three first-places finishes: 100-meters, 200-meters and triple jump. Linberger finished second in the 100 and 200-meters.
Shinn and Linberger were second and third, respectively, in the 400-meters.
The 4×100-meter team of Zoe Barrick, Marissa McEwen, Gracie von Thun and Layne Parshall placed third.
McEwen earned a third-place finish in discus. She set a personal best in shot put.
In boys’ competition, Noah Greenwell placed third in both the 400-meters and javelin. He also set a personal best in the long jump.
Other NS athletes with personal records at Monroe City were: Parshall, long jump; Fady Francis, shot put and discus; Alexa Mesmer, shot put and javelin; Jeremiaha Pratt, long jump.
