Cyrus Michael McConnell
Cyrus Michael McConnell, 32, passed away at his home on July 6, 2021 in Columbia.
Cy was born to James David and Mary Lu (Wilson) McConnell on April 21, 1989 in Moberly.
Cy enjoyed the great outdoors where he could golf, hunt and fish. He loved his peaceful times fishing at Turkey Farm Lake.
He maintained a steady bond with his many childhood friends and new acquaintances he made during and after his college years. His most precious times were being with his love, Holly and dog, Paisley.
Cy’s passion for music started 15 years ago when he started playing guitar. Playing bass in several bands, he broadened his music abilities into writing and recording.
After graduation from MU in 2011 he worked as a bio-chemist in research for the University. Cy, along with his colleagues, had their research published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry in 2014. Later, he joined his brother Matt in his real estate, Farmland Consultants, and also was a transaction coordinator for Mid Continent Funding, Inc.
Cy enjoyed debating on various topics and current events with his many friends. His keen sense of humor was definitely inherited from his grandpa “Frog” McConnell.
He is survived by his parents, Jim and Mary Lu of Shelbina; fiancée, Holly Kite of Columbia; brother, Matt Wear (Sadie) of Hallsville; nieces, Maci and Avery Wear; brother-in-law, Keanan Kite and his daughter Cora; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cy was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Harold and Aileen Wilson and paternal grandparents, Howard and Norma McConnell, Uncle Bob McConnell and cousin, Daniel McConnell.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Sunday, July 11 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Father Buhman Center in Shelbina.
A sharing of memories will begin at 3 p.m. during the celebration.
A graveside service will be held at Shelbina Cemetery on Monday, July 12 at 11 a.m.
