Virgil Junior Wilhoit, 74, of Moberly, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia.
Virgil was born January 22, 1947 in Hannibal, the son of Virgil Allen and Jewel (Dye) Wilhoit. Virgil served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Gloria “Jane” Steen on August 4, 1968 in Shelbina. Virgil enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and especially loved spending time with his family.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Jane Wilhoit, of the home; three sons, Steven Wilhoit of Lee’s Summit, Jason Wilhoit and his wife Melissa of Keytesville and Chris Wilhoit and his wife Jenni of Salisbury; eight grandchildren, Elyse, Sophia and Dwight Wilhoit, Autumn Eivens and her husband Alek, Kinsey, Coen, Averie and Gillian Wilhoit. He is also survived by his two brothers, Weldon Wilhoit and his wife Kathy of Lee’s Summit and Ronnie Wilhoit and his wife Kay of West Alton; two sisters, Wilma Berniece Wilhoit of Edwardsville, IL, and Virginia Templeman of Peoria, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Minnie, Billie and Betty; and one brother, Walter “Sonny” Wilhoit.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 6 at the Crossroads Christian Church in Macon. Burial, with full military honors, will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville. Visitation will be Thursday evening, August 5 from 5 to 7 p.m., at the church.
The family suggests memorials to the American Lung Association.
