The AmeriCorps Seniors Program at Douglass Community Services recently honored Carrie Elsen with the Supporting Our Success award.
During the summer of COVID 2020, Carrie Elsen, County Engagement Specialist for Shelby County began efforts to forge a USDA summer meals partnership with Douglass Community Services. Carrie organized efforts between volunteers and elected officials to step up and provide services for the community.
In 2021, as the Summer Meals program changed, and meals were able to be distributed in bulk to families, Elsen coordinated the process that to date has allowed the service of 14,656 breakfasts and 14,656 lunches to children in need.
Douglass Community Services recognizes Elsen with the Supporting Our Success award because of her dedication and commitment to organizing volunteers in the Shelby County community to meet the pressing needs of hungry children.
Through her efforts, Elsen helps to bridge the gap between the community and the program sponsor.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Douglass Community Services is a trusted partner in building strong kids, strong families and strong communities.
