The Shelbyville Board of Aldermen met Monday, December 6, 2021 at the city office at 6 p.m. Present were Mayor Mike Vanskike, Aldermen Brad Willey, Jerry Myers and Paul Sulser, City Clerk Gina Mesmer, City Superintendent Randy Shores and city employee Nathan Minear and Jane Rushford with Meco Engineering.
Alderman Sulser asked to amend the agenda to give information about health insurance.
Alderman Sulser talked to an insurance agent to see if the city can go together with other cities to help with health insurance costs. Insurance is a little different for municipalities. Mesmer will get with our agent of record and see what information she can provide on the topic.
Rushford wanted to visit the city and sit in on the meeting.
Alderman Sulser made a motion to pay the bills and Alderman Myers seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Filing opens December 7 and closes December 28. Up for re-election are Mayor Vanskike, Aldermen Southers and Sulser.
Alderman Myers made a motion to give the employees $150.00 each for customary compensation. Alderman Sulser seconded the motion. Motion passed.
The demolition mandatory walk thru for contractors wishing to bid is December 7. The bids are due December 14.
The board reviewed the 2022 budget. Alderman Sulser made a motion to adopt the 2022 budget and Alderman Myers seconded the motion. A roll call vote was taken with Alderman Willey YEA, Alderman Myers YEA, Alderman Sulser YEA. Alderman Southers was absent.
Alderman Sulser discussed a house with trash at the street. A certified letter will be sent to the owner.
Mayor Vanskike discussed making changes to the employee handbook. Vanskike would like to look at the sick leave and vacation policy. This will be discussed and looked at over the next several months.
Alderman Sulser left the meeting.
The minutes and bills were approved.
The next meeting will be Monday, January 10, 2022 at 6 p.m.
