North Shelby hosted the Lady Trojans at the first home game of the season Friday, December 17. The Lady Raiders lost in a nail bitter, 56-55.
“By far the best game we have played as a unit this year,” said North Shelby head coach Landon Daniel. “The girls had a great week of practice where we pushed each other to be better and be more competitive and it paid off for us.”
Ava Williams led NS with 17 points. Ceairra Kirby had 14 and Natalie Thrasher tallied 13.
Thrasher had nine rebounds in the game. Kirby had five assists.
The Lady Raiders (2-4) were outscored in the first quarter, 17-10. They came back strong in the second claiming 22 points. NS gained a 32-28 lead going into the second half.
“Some costly turnovers and missing a few bunnies really came back to bite us in the end but we held our own against a quality team and proved that we can still play with anyone,” said Daniel.
Community scored 28 points in the second half. North Shelby was held to 23.
“Our confidence level continues to grow with each game and that’s what really matters,” said Daniel.
