Lady Raiders Earn Victories in Matchups

Junior Ava Williams 27 points guided the Lady Raiders in a 54-44 victory against Atlanta on Thursday, January 6.
This was North Shelby’s (3-5) first game after Christmas break.
Ceairra Kirby made a three-point play less than a minute into the game. Kirby went on to make the next bucket giving NS a 5-3 lead.
The Lady Hornets took a 7-5 advantage after Sylvie Christensen made a bucket.
Atlanta gained a seven-point lead with 3:30 minutes left in the period.
North Shelby’s Andi Belt scored two and Addy Uhlmeyer went one-for-two from the line. The Lady Raiders trailed 12-8.
“We did not play well at all,” NS head coach Landon Daniel commented about the first half. “I thought our decision making was not very good.”
Williams scored the final bucket for NS with 54 seconds on the clock. The Lady Hornets had a 16-10 advantage.
Atlanta continued its lead in the second quarter and had a five-point lead at the half, 28-23.
NS exploded coming into the second half.
Meg Shively and Natalie Thrasher each scored a bucket. Williams splashed in a 3-pointer. Kirby went 3-for-4 from the free throw line. The Lady Raiders took a 32-28 lead.
“We also proved we can not play well in first half, come back and change some things,” Daniel continued, “We’ve got to communicate. If we don’t talk on defense we struggle. That was a big emphasis in the second half.”
Williams scored four more points in the third quarter. NS had a 37-35 advantage.
Into the fourth quarter, Williams claimed four points within 30 seconds. The Lady Hornets came to a one-point disadvantage until Thrasher went to work from the arch.
Thrasher scored two 3-pointers within a minute. Uhlmeyer put in a bucket as well. NS gained an eight-point lead.
Belt and Williams claimed the last four points North Shelby had in the game.
Lady Raiders at Green City
North Shelby traveled to Green City on Friday, January 7.
Williams led North Shelby (4-5) with 17 in its 38-32 win.
The Lady Gophers held a 11-10 lead in the first period. North Shelby’s 12 points in the second gave them a 22-18 advantage to end the first half.
NS outscored GC 10-3 in the third quarter. Williams had six of the 10 points.
The Lady Raiders only scored six points in the final period. Green City had 11.
North Shelby vs. Novinger
The Lady Raiders hosted the Lady Wildcats on Saturday, January 8. NS claimed a 67-36 victory.
Thrasher led the Lady Raiders (5-5) with 19. Williams claimed 16 and Kirby had 15.
Thrasher had five 3-pointers.
North Shelby dominated the entire game. They scored 52 points in the first half. Novinger only scored 11.
