Richard Howard Dutton, age 82, died peacefully Monday, February 14, 2022, at his home in Hallsville, Mo.

Born December 26, 1939, in Kirksville, the son of Dr. Howard Ulysses and Lucille Loma Davis Dutton, raised and schooled in Bethel (Shelby County) MO.

Richard graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville and University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

He spent the majority of his teaching career at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa.  Richard loved culture, travel, food, wine, creating, history and trains.

Richard is survived by his wife Karen Rainey Dutton of Hallsville, daughter Katherine (Matthew) Dutton-Gillett, Menlo Park, Calif., son Brett (Nicole) Dutton, Hamburg, Germany, grandchildren, Madeline (Casey) Dutton-Gillett, Mountain View, Calif., Sabrina Dutton, Austin, Texas and Maxwell Dutton-Gillett, Menlo Park, Calif., cousin, Sue Dutton, Skeeters, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., sister-in-law Janet Mach Dutton, Kissimmee, Fla., sister-in-law, Karla (Alan) Kiser, Moberly, brother-in-law, Mike Rainey, Shelbina, daughter-in-law, Marina Bohl Dutton, Frankenthal, Germany, nieces and nephews.    

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dr. Jerry Lee Dutton.

A memorial service was held at Orr Street Studios, Columbia, on Tuesday, February 22, at 5 p.m.   Graveside services are being planned in the Cherry Box Cemetery, Shelby County, in early summer.
