South Shelby Lady Birds received second place in the Class 3 Missouri State Championship game Friday, March 11, 2022. The game was played at JQH Arena at Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.
El Dorado Springs (29-3) claimed a 61-26 win over South Shelby.
The Lady Birds (25-5) were led by junior Miranda Patterson with 11 points.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead with two and a half minutes of the game.
South Shelby’s Emma Dovin splashed in a 3-pointer. El Dorado Springs had a 13-point lead with under five minutes on the clock. South Shelby freshman Bella Roush put in a bucket with 3:50 left in the quarter. Patterson tallied the last two points for SS. The Lady Bulldogs had a 24-7 advantage.
El Dorado Springs outscored the Lady Birds, 19-4 in the second period. Roush and Patterson each claimed a bucket.
Patterson earned a bucket just 11 seconds into the third. The Lady Birds scored six points within two minutes. Roush claimed four and Patterson scored two. With 41.5 seconds on clock, Patterson went 2-for-2 from the FT line.
The Lady Bulldogs held a 55-20 lead.
Dovin claimed the four points South Shelby had in the final period.
South Shelby vs.
West County
The Lady Birds (25-4) beat West County in a second half shoot out Thursday, March 10, 45-31.
South Shelby was led by Patterson with 20 points and Roush with 10.
Roush earned the only four points SS had in the first quarter. West County had a 6-4 lead.
Patterson splashed in a 3-pointer to begin the second period. West County outscored the Lady Birds 11-5 in the quarter.
South Shelby’s three-point shots allowed them to only trail by one with 4:43 on the clock. Patterson hit two 3’s and Dovin claimed one.
After a time out by West County, the Lady Birds added eight points to the board. At the end of the third they led 26-22.
South Shelby outscored West County in the final period, 19-9.
