The Shelbyville Board of Aldermen met in regular session Monday, March 7, 2022, at the city office at 6 p.m. Present were Mayor Mike Vanskike, Aldermen Brad Willey, Jerry Myers and Rob Southers, City Superintendent Randy Shores, city employee Nathan Minear, City Clerk Gina Mesmer and Marlana Smith with the Shelby County Herald.
The minutes and bills were approved.
The board discussed a letter from Shelby County Economic Development and decided not to contribute at this time.
Clarence Cannon Wholesale Water would like to add fluoride to the water. They are asking each member system to vote if they would like it added or not. Alderman Myers made a motion to approve the fluoride treatment and Alderman Southers seconded the motion. Motion passed.
The aldermen decided to put an ad in the paper for part-time summer help with mowing. The individual needs to be 18 years or older. The position will not exceed 28 hours and the pay will be $13.50 per hour. Applications will be accepted until March 31.
Per agreement with the State on the demolition grant, the city needs to hire a historical consultant to make brochures on the three historical houses. Gail Emrie is a certified consultant, and the mayor signed an agreement with her. Alderman Myers made a motion to approve, and Alderman Willey seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Alderman Myers made a motion to go into closed session to discuss employees and purchase of property. Alderman Willey seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Alderman Southers made a motion to return to open session.
The board discussed the employee vacation and sick policy. Sick leave will be accumulated at eight hours a month not to exceed 30 days. Vacation will add five days after 20 years and will have to be used and not carried to the next year. If comp time is earned for weekend testing, the employee will take off Friday afternoon to keep comp time to a minimum.
The next meeting will be Monday, April 4.
Alderman Willey made a motion to adjourn at 7:40 p.m. and Alderman Myers seconded the motion.
