The North Shelby Board of Education met in regular and executive sessions on April 13, 2022, in the high school fiber optic room. All members were present, and the meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance.
The agenda was approved and the board was reorganized, with Scot Shively and Amy Presson being sworn in to office by Debra Barrick. Officers were elected—Scot Shively, President, and Shawn McEwen, Vice President. Debra Barrick was voted in as treasurer and Brenda Rogers as board secretary.
Consent Agenda
The previous month’s minutes and bills to be paid were approved by the board 7-0.
Superintendent’s Report
Kim Gaines reported on the Governor’s minimum teacher salary proposal. The Governor has proposed a minimum salary of $38,000 for Missouri teachers. At this time, his proposal has not been approved by the House or Senate. The final budget for the state must be finalized by May 6, 2022. Gaines commended Trey Million for his work in preparing the bus fleet for the annual inspection. 100% of the district’s buses passed the inspection.
New Business
The board approved the district calendar for 2022-23 with a start date of August 23, 2022. The board also approved the purchase of an “off lease” bus for the district fleet at a cost of $73,000 dollars.
Executive Session
The board accepted the resignations of Kathy Jackson—English Language Arts and Stacey Craigmyle—Title I.
The board voted to hire all support staff and Kelly McEwen (6-0, Shawn McEwen abstain) as the Parents As Teachers educator. The board voted to hire Alicia Bacon (7-0) and Cynthia Blackford (7-0) as food service personnel and Adam Shively (6-0, Scot Shively abstain) and Jamie Smith (7-0) as paraprofessionals in the high school.
The board voted to extend contracts to Ashley Hicks-K-12 Art and Chris Schiff-JH/HS Social Studies-both 7-0. For the elementary, the board voted to hire/transfer Houston Bichsel (7-0) as an elementary teacher, Abbey Rich (7-0) and Kaitlyn Mersman (7-0) as elementary classroom teachers. Stacy Perrigo (7-0) was extended a contract for elementary special education. Shalyn Parsons (7-0) was hired as an elementary paraprofessional. All votes were roll call.
Extra duty contracts were presented to current staff with a few additions and changes: Ashley Hicks-jh softball assistant (7-0), Danielle Hallock-varsity football cheer(7-0), Stephanie Penn-jh girls’ basketball assistant (7-0), Chris Schiff-varsity baseball assistant (7-0), David Stuckey-varsity track head coach (7-0), Cody Stoneburner-varsity boys’ basketball head coach (7-0), Adam Shively-varsity boys’ basketball assistant (6-0, Scott Shively abstain), Dan Uhlmeyer-varsity softball 2nd assistant (6-0, Brandy Uhlmeyer abstain) and Renee Shinn-varsity track assistant (5-2, Killen, McEwen Presson, Uhlmeyer and Wiley, YEA and Shively and Yoder, NO). All votes taken were in roll-call format.
The district is advertising for an ELA teacher and Business teacher in the high school.
