North Shelby Raiders Varsity ran off with the lead late in the game in an 8-7 victory over Marion County on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.
The game was tied at six with the Raiders batting in the top of the sixth when Casey Shockley drew a walk, scoring one run.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as North Shelby collected seven hits and the Mustangs had seven.
In the first inning, NS got their offense started. Kyle Smith lined out, scoring one run.
The Raiders evened things up at six in the top of the fifth inning when Landon Bender singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.
North Shelby notched three runs in the fifth inning. The Raiders batters contributing to the big inning included Smith and Bender, all driving in runs in the inning.
Marion County scored three runs in the fourth inning. The Mustangs scored its runs on a error by North Shelby
Robert Uhlmeyer was on the hill for North Shelby. The righthander went five innings, allowing six runs on five hits and striking out seven.
Cooper Stotts was on the mound for Marion County. The pitcher surrendered seven runs on six hits over five innings, striking out nine. Jackson Stewart threw two innings in relief.
Bender went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead North Shelby in hits. NS stole seven bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Uhlmeyer led the way with two.
The Mustangs had seven hits in the game. Whetstone and Root Cheney all managed multiple hits for Marion County.
