John Richard Schaefer, 81, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at his home in Shelbina.
John was born October 14, 1940 in Fulton, to Emil and Lucille Belle (Love) Schaefer. He was united in marriage to Loretta Talbot on March 6, 1958 in Montgomery City. She preceded him in death on July 20, 1990.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and great-granddaughter, Lilly Kinzle.
He is survived by three children, Rick Schaefer (Kellie) of Macon, Debbie Rudicil of Shelbina, MO, and Martha Beatty (Rusty) of Shelbina; eight grandchildren, Trina Shirbroun, Shannon Brown, Dustin Schaefer (Amanda), Nickie Little (Steven), Tiffany Parrish, Trisha Billingsley, (Robert), Tara Harris, and Joey Parrish; 23 great- grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Schaefer (Linda) of Fulton.
John enjoyed dealing used cars, hunting, fishing, going to the boat, demolition derbies, and spending time with his friends and family. He ran Schaefer’s Auto Salvage for more than 20 years and also ran a furniture store and a fireworks stand. He was a hard worker and was always willing to trade for things.
Funeral services were be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home at 2 pm.
Visitation was held Monday, June 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
