The South Shelby Scarlets attended UDA camp July 11-14th at the Regailia Hotel and Conference Center at the Lake of the Ozarks along with 16 teams across the Midwest.
Ten dancers competed at UDA camp, and took home two Red and 19 Blue Ribbons. The Scarlets Blue ribbon average was one of the highest at camp, and received a superior trophy.
Since the Scarlets received a Superior Trophy, and competed with a routine brought from home, they are now eligible for NATIONALS in Orlando, Florida this January.
Dancers Zoey Elliot, Kaelyn Maddex, and Ashlyn Schaefer received Gold Ribbons for their exemplary performance in Drill Downs. Drill downs are where all the dancers follow military commands given by the head dance instructor, and executing them flawlessly. It is an exercise in listening and performing to commands.
The Scarlets also received a pair of Super Spirit Sticks. Out of 16 teams ranging from 1A-6A present at camp, our team was chosen by UDA Staff to receive the super spirit sticks. The super spirit sticks represent a kind, outgoing, and helpful team.
Dancers Jaelynn Hendricks, and Abby Krog received pin-it-forward pins. The 8 UDA Staff each hand out 1 pin-it-forward to a dancer they think is being an overall athlete others should look up to, and is being kind towards all of the 350 dancers present at camp.
SCARLETS HAVE OUR FIRST EVER ALL AMERICAN DANCER! Jaelynn Hendricks competed with several other top dancers from each of the 16 teams to receive the prestigious honor. Each All American dancer is taught a short Jazz, Pom and Hip-hop routine, and tries out by themselves in front of the entire camp. The routine must be executed flawlessly, with extreme personality. All American is extremely hard at UDA Away Camps, and we couldn’t be more proud of all her hard work. Jaelynn is now eligible to dance in the London, England New Years Eve Parade, Honolulu, Hawaii Thanksgiving Parade, or the Orlando, Florida Thanksgiving Tour.
