Fire Destroys Bethel Home

A Bethel home was destroyed by fire on Thursday, March 16, 2023. The home located at 5999 Route J, north of Bethel, was owned by Jennifer Cooper.
Shelby Community Fire Chief Mike Geisendorfer said the call came in at 12:53 p.m. Upon arrival heavy smoke and flames were visible. SCFD requested assisted from Shelbina Fire Protection District (SFPD) when they arrived on scene for more water. SFPD brought a tanker and several men. They were on scene until 3:00 p.m.
Chief Geisendorfer said they were able to get water from the tower east of the home.
Geisendorfer said nobody was home when the fire started. There were no injuries, but a dog is still missing. SCFD was on scene until 5:00 p.m.
“The fire marshal did show up. The fire is still under investigation, but it is our preliminary findings that the fire was possibly electrical,” said Geisendorfer.
The SCFD was assisted by Shelbina Fire Protection District, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and Salt River Ambulance.
