Johnny Cook, 48, of Leonard, MO, passed away Thurso.ay, July 27, 2023 at Leonard, Mo. as a result from an accident.

He was born June 30, 1975 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. the son of Winfred Harold and Brenda Kaye Burkheart Cook.

Johnny is survived by his two children, Brayton and Jacie Cook of Leonard, Mo., his mother, Brenda Cook of Lewistown, one brother, Jason Cook (Amanda) of Shelbyville, Mo., three sisters, Wendy Kirby of Shelbyville, Mo., Cindy Cook (Patrick Nampel) of Marshall, Win. and Mindy Cunningham (Michael) of Moberly,  Mo., several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father.

Johnny graduated from North Shelby High School in 1994.  He then attended and played football for a year at Quincy University.  He then worked for Sellenriek Construction for multiple years until he started his own business running a dozer. He owned and operated JH COOK Excavation Company where he operated dozers, track hoes, skid steers, and anything that could move dirt.  He was passionate about doing his job right and was respected for his work in the excavation field. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and collecting artifacts, especially arrowheads.  He loved to watch North Shelby Football, especially watching his son play and his daughter manage the team. He had a huge heart and helped anyone in need. Many times putting others’ needs in front of his own. His laugh was contagious and always came with a smile. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

Funeral services was held at 1 pm on Monday, July 31, 2023 at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, Mo.  Visitation was from 10 am to 1 pm at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August  1, 2023 at Redenbough Cemetery at 12 pm in Corning, Arkansas.   

Memorials may be made to the Children’s Education Fund (In care of Amanda Cook) or the American Valor Foundation.
