The Shelbina Pharmacy, which closed its doors on August 31, 2023, was bought out by Johnston Drug, who took possession of the customer files on September 1.
“We bought their files, inventory, and assets,” stated Jim Johnston, owner of Johnston Drug. “Shelbina Pharmacy customers do not have to do anything different. We have all their records on file with us now.”
Johnston explained that if customers do not want to use them as a drug store, they can call the store and they would transfer their records to the pharmacy that the customer would prefer.
He added that it does add a lot more pressure to his staff, but they have handled the pressure well so far.
“We have been very busy since we took on the Shelbina customers,” said Johnston. “But we have done something like this before in the past, so we knew what to expect.”
Johnston Drug does offer delivery, but it is geared more towards those customers who can’t make it to the store.
“It makes it more efficient if the customer is standing in front of you to make sure you have everything you need while you’re there,” said Johnston. “The shut-ins will have top priority on delivery.”
As for a future location in Shelbina, Johnston said that it was in the works, but it may take a while and it will be in a different location.
“I hope everyone can be patient with us,” said Johnston. “We intend to come back to Shelbina. It takes time to get everything lined out, such as licenses, prep work, hiring a pharmacist and staff. It will take several months. Probably towards the end of the year.”
Johnston Drug is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-6 p.m. They are open from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
“Hopefully Shelbina will be glad to have us back and we’ll do the best we can to serve the needs of the community,” said Johnston.
