Lady Birds Take Advantage of Marion County Defensive Errors

The South Shelby Lady Birds traveled to Marion County on Thursday, September 7, 2023, and won 13-1 in five innings. Marion County committed 10 errors in the game.
The Lady Birds jumped on the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning. Harlie Fuller led off the inning with a single, which was followed by an RBI double by Larissa Larrick. Cassidy Curtis reached on an error that scored Larrick and gave South Shelby a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Bella Cook reached on an error that scored another run.
Kamryn Mitchell singled, which was followed by a two run single by Callie McWilliams to give the Lady Birds a 5-0 lead heading to the bottom of the second inning.
The Lady Mustangs scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the second inning.
McWilliams added another RBI in the top of the fourth inning on a single that scored Mitchell, who had reached on an error. McWilliams stole second base and later scored on an error to give the Lady Birds a 7-1 lead.
South Shelby put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth inning scoring six runs. Fuller and Madison Wilt each had RBI singles in the inning, to go along with the five errors committed by Marion County in the inning. The Lady Birds led 13-1, which was the final.
McWilliams led the offense with three hits, two runs scored, two RBIs, and three stolen bases. Mitchell added two hits, three runs scored, and two stolen bases. Fuller added two hits, one run, and one RBI.
Curtis pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits. She walkedthree batters and struck out seven.
The Lady Birds, 4-4 overall and 0-1 in the CCC, hosted La Plata on Monday, September 11. They travel to Monroe City on Thursday, September 14, and host Macon on Monday, September 18. All games begin at 5 p.m.
