The South Shelby Cardinals lost 52-36 against the Blair Oaks Falcons on Friday, December 29, 2023, at the Moberly Area Community College Shootout in Moberly.
South Shelby fell behind early in the game 11-5. Buckets by Noah Wilt and Chance Rainey late in the first quarter closed the gap, but the Cardinals trailed 13-9 after the first quarter.
The Cardinals were held to two buckets and two free throws in second quarter as Blair Oaks outscored South Shelby 14-6 to build a 27-15 lead at the half.
South Shelby spent most of the third quarter at the free-throw line. Unfortunately, the team only made 4-of-8 attempts. The only made basket by the Cardinals in the third quarter was by Mason Pfannenstiel with 32 seconds left in the quarter. The Falcons led 33-25 after three quarters.
Pryce Eagan scored six straight points in the fourth quarter for the Cardinals, but South Shelby continued to play from behind. Blair Oaks pulled away at the end to win 52-36.
Rainey led the Cardinals with 10 points and four rebounds. Wilt also finished with 10 points, followed by Eagan with eight points.
The Cardinals, 4-7 overall, faced Meadville in the first round of the Salisbury Tournament on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. With a win, they will play Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
A loss would mean they would play Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
