Charles Richard Vannoy

Charles Richard Vannoy, 88, of Shelbyville, Mo, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023, at the Salt River Community Care Center in Shelbina, Mo.

Charles was born July 4, 1935, in Shelby County, Mo, the son of Ernest Raymond and Joveta Grace (Vanzant) Vannoy.  He was united in marriage to Shirley Jean Parsons on October 9, 1954.  She preceded him in death on September 16, 2013.  He later married Debbie Coonrod in October of 2015. She survives.

He is also survived by his three children, Karen Arment, Steven Vannoy (Melanie), and David Vannoy (Tami), all of Shelbyville, Mo; six grandchildren, Brad Arment, Chad Arment (Lisa), Bruce Vannoy (Melissa), Trent Vannoy (Katie), Sydni Hilpert (Tristen), and Amber Vannoy; 11 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two step children; five step grandchildren; two great step grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Mertz of St. Louis, Mo, and Anna Mae Smith (Elmer Dee) of Shelbyville, Mo; sister-in-law, Patricia Vannoy; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Donna Jean Vannoy; one brother, Bob Vannoy; brother-in-law, John Mertz; and son-in-law, Terry Arment.

Charles was a member and deacon of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. After graduating high school, he served in the United States Navy Reserves.  He was a member of the International Gideon’s organization, a board member of the Mt. Zion Cemetery, and was active in the prison ministry in Moberly penitentiary.  He was a lifelong farmer and worked as a mail carrier for over 30 years, where he retired in October of 1993.  Charles loved hunting and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, Mo. Funeral services will following directly after the visitation starting a 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Fuller officiating. Burial followed the service in Mt. Zion Cemetery, east of Shelbyville, Mo.
