Mary Jane Gaines

  Mary Jane Gaines, 101, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Shelbina Villa Lifecare.

  She was born July 30, 1922, in Schell City, Missouri, the daughter of Vincil Webster and Nina Frances Fuller Foreman. On October 8, 1939, she was united in marriage to Estel Francis Gaines in Shelbina, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 4, 2013.

  Mary Jane is survived by three children, Robert (Linda) Gaines, James (Phillis) Gaines, and Jo Anne Thrasher all of Shelbyville; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Gaines of Comanche, Okla.; one son-in-law, Larry Cooper of Clarence, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, Karen and Rusty Gaines, Mark (Mellany) Gaines, Kent Gaines, Kathy (John) Watkins, Dennis Gaines, Sandy (Brad) Willey, Michael Gaines, Darren Cooper, Brian (Laura) Cooper, Christy (Shane) Yost, and Jeff (Jennifer) Thrasher; 20great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and sixteen great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Betty (Gerald) Perry of Novelty, Mo.

  She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Kenneth Gaines; one daughter, Janette Cooper; one, son-in-law, Larry Thrasher; one great-great grandson, Henley Edward Gaines; and four brothers, Bill, Gerald, Larry, and Harold Foreman.

  Mary Jane attended Leonard High School and was a member of Shelbyville Christian Church. She enjoyed traveling, camping, community events, and crafts. She loved her family very much and cherished the time she could spend with them.

  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, Missouri, at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in Shelby Memorial Cemetery in Shelbyville, Mo. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home in Shelbina from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to the Shelby Memorial Cemetery, Shelbyville, Mo., St. Croix Hospice of Moberly or Donor’s Choice.
