The North Shelby Lady Raiders hosted Green City, Monday, January 6. Despite a spirited effort, NS lost 66-43.
North Shelby coach Landon Daniel said, “We scored 43 points against a quality team with a Division II stud who scored 49 points by herself (Brooke Littrell) and we did so without a four-year starter. Our leading scorer not scoring a two-point basket, and the leader of our team in foul trouble all night long.
“That says a lot about these girls and how much they have grown over not only this year but from last year as well.”
The Lady Raiders had slow start in the first quarter as they were only able to score eight points. Green City led 20-8.
In the second quarter, North Shelby was able to match Green City point- for-point as each put 13 points on the board.
“In that quarter we had five freshmen on the floor at times as well as other times with as many as four subs on the floor. Very proud of the girls for stepping up and playing hard,” said Daniel.
North Shelby added 22 points in the second half. Lalaine Treasure tallied 13 points against Green City.
Daniel said, “We had too many turnovers and again struggled with weak passing at times, but they played with high energy all night and if the other team doesn’t try and just pad their stud’s stats when the game was essentially over, this would have been a closer game with the final score.”
