Shirley Ann Black, age 79, passed away Friday, June 5, 2020, at her home in Shelbina with her family after a long battle with cancer.
Shirley was born on February 16, 1941, in Monroe County, MO, to James Henry and Margaret (Garrison) Magruder. She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Harry Black on February 11, 1961 in Shelbina and he survives.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of Shelbina and graduated from Shelbina High School in 1959. She obtained her Beautician License from the Quincy Beauty Academy and worked as a beautician for 50 years in Shelbina.
She was the biggest sports fan and attended every event that her kids and grandkids were involved in. Shirley also enjoyed taking care of her home, cooking, gardening, and took special interest in family historical genealogy. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Tiger fan.
The greatest joy of her life was her family and especially her grandchildren and her great-grandsons. Shirley is survived by her two sons, Rob Black (Kathy) of Shelbina and Mike Black of Lake of the Ozarks, MO; seven grandchildren, Kyle Black, Jordan Black (Sarah), Reese Black, Channing Black, Hillary Black, Sarah Black, and Sean Black; two great-grandchildren, Draden Black and Cash Black; two step grandchildren, Blake White and Justin White; one brother Pearl Magruder (Dale Ann); three sisters Charlotte Nagel, Nell Buckman, and Libby Youse (David); sisters-in-law, Darlene Magruder, Joann Hillard, and Virginia Boyles; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter-in-law, Carrie Black; brother, James W. Magruder; and brothers-in-law, Sam Buckman, Bob Hillard, and Kenny Moore.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery on Monday, June 8, 2020 under the direction of Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home of Shelbina, MO. Memorials may be made to: Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
