Louis Edward “Ed’ Mahoney

Ed Mahoney, 89, of Leonard, passed away on Dec. 29 at Salt River Community Care in Shelbina.

Ed was born May 4, 1931 in Leonard to Otis Worthy and Bernice Ellen (Perry) Mahoney. He was united in marriage to Gertrude Smith on Dec. 21, 1952 in Shelbina. They recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Becky Jansen (Travis) of Blue Springs; three grandchildren, Amy Martin (Ryan) of Grain Valley,, Josh Launius (Anna) of Independence; Jared Launius (Chelsea Crooks) of Madison, Wis. and seven great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Laura Jean, Mary Jo and Elizabeth.

Ed was a member of Leonard Christian Church, Shelbina American Legion Post 376 and a past member of the Pioneer Gun Club. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. Ed served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He enjoyed gun smithing, knife making, woodworking, collecting toy trains and tractors.

A private family memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021 at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. Burial will follow at People’s Cemetery in Leonard. Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 376 in Shelbina.
