Raiders Lose to Atlanta

North Shelby lost to No. 3 seed Atlanta in the third-place match up on Saturday, Feb. 6 at La Plata Tournament, 76-68.
Atlanta took a 8-0 lead just three minutes into the game.
Kyle Smith got the Raiders (10-8) on the board after he went two-for-two from the free throw line. North Shelby, seeded No. 4, was outscored 19-13 in the first quarter.
The Raiders added another 13 points ending the first half. Atlanta maintained a 32-26 lead.
North Shelby had a big second half scoring 42 points. Brendyn McDaniel led NS with 23 points against the Hornets. Carson Orr scored 15.
NS vs. Canton
North Shelby beat No. 5 Canton in the first round Monday, Feb. 1, 61-54.
“That was good win for us. Canton is a much better team. They got a new coach and did some good things. I thought the guys really showed and played hard and executed. That’s a good win for us,” said Daniel.
McDaniel had a game-high 21 points. J.D. Rich had 17.
The Raiders had seven 3s in the game. McDaniel scored four, Rich claimed two and Robert Uhlmeyer had one.
The Tigers had a 28-27 lead at the half.
North Shelby outscored the Tigers 19-10 in the third period. Canton scored 16 points in the fourth quarter. Twelve of those were 3s.
The Raiders were 12 for 18 from the free throw line. Kyle Smith was 7 for 10 from the line.
Raiders vs. Cairo
North Shelby took on No. 1 seed Cairo (18-1) on Wednesday, Feb. 3. The Raiders lost 63-34.
“Cairo is a solid team. We did some things to really hurt ourselves. But, I felt that we gave Cairo a pretty good game.
“I told the guys afterwards, ‘If Cairo has to work that hard to beat us, that says something about what respect level they have for us.’ Not good on the scoreboard but a decent game for us,” Daniel said.
No Raiders scored double digits against the Bearcats. Uhlmeyer led NS with nine points. McDaniel had six.
Cairo’s Ryan Traley had a game-high of 22 points, including six 3-pointers.
The Bearcats outscored North Shelby 42-20 in the first half.
NS scored 14 points in the second half. Cairo had 21.
