Betty Long died Friday, October 29, 2021, in Raleigh, N. C.

Betty was born on a farm January 17, 1928, near Clarence, to parents, Elmer and Cleopatra Stamper. She attended a one room schoolhouse until moving to town at age 12. Betty loved playing the clarinet in the Clarence High School band and graduated in 1946. She worked as a bank teller at Clarence State Bank, then at various banks in Columbia, before working at Central Methodist University. She married Albert Walker Long in 1947 and was happily married for 63 years. In her later years, Betty was an active volunteer with the Methodist Church.

Betty is survived by two children, David Long of Columbia, and Mary Katherine Seiler of Raleigh, N.C., three grandchildren, Michael Seiler (Liyang), Sarah Hogan (Tom), and Lauren Hartwick (Cory), and five great-grandchildren: Tommy, Emily, Joe, Jonathan, and Lily.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son-in-law, Steve and a brother, Bill.

Betty was an avid reader and loved playing card and board games with family and friends. Betty passed in Raleigh, where she lived surrounded by her loving family.

A memorial graveside service will be held on Friday, November 12, at 11 a.m. at Maplewood Cemetery in Clarence.
