During the regular meeting of the City of Shelbina Board of Alderman on Tuesday, December 14, City Marshal Jeff Brown presented a Shelbina Police Officer and two Shelby County Deputies with honors concerning event(s) that took place November 11, 2021.
During the early evening hours of November 11, the Shelbina Police Department was dispatched to the 500 block of South Center Street in Shelbina, in reference to an unknown disturbance. Upon the arrival of the SPD Officer, he located a male bleeding profusely from his leg. The Shelbina Police officer acted quickly and applied a tourniquet to slow/stop the bleeding. Shelby County Deputy Sheriff Caleb Barton and Caleb Brown arrived to assist the SPD Officer. The Shelby County Deputies assisted the Shelbina Police Officer in rendering first aid to the victim and assisted in making the scene secure. The Salt River Ambulance arrived and took over patient care, with the patient ultimately being airlifted to the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.
Marshal Brown was later advised by Salt River Ambulance Personnel and University of Missouri Hospital staff that the Shelbina Police Officer’s actions at the scene potentially saved the patient’s life.
Marshal Brown presented Shelbina Police Officer Ben Hodges with a Life Saving Award for his actions November 11.
Marshal Brown presented Shelby County Deputies Caleb Barton and Caleb Brown with a Letter of Commendation for their actions November 11.
Marshal Brown is proud of these officers for working together and saving a citizen’s life.
