The North Shelby Junior High Raiders concluded its season on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.
The Raiders had a very successful season full of highlights. Among those were a 1st place team finish at the La Plata Relays, 2nd place at the South Shelby Invitational, and 2nd place at both Knox County Relays.
There were 23 members on the track team this year for the Junior High Raiders, several returning from last season.
Drake Prange (8th grade) was the highest scorer for the Raiders and finished the season with 175.25 points. He found success with the discus (6 golds), shot put (6 golds), and the 100 and 200-meter dashes. He was also vital on several relay teams.
Mallory Griffin (7th grade) was the highest scorer for the Lady Raiders and finished the season with 117 points. She enjoyed high jumping, triple jumping, the 200-meter dash and worked on various relay teams.
Other notable members of the team include Gannon Bowen (8th grade) in the 100-meter hurdles, triple jump, and shot put, Clara Uhlmeyer (7th grade) in the triple and long jump, Ava Richardson (8th grade) in the shot put and discus, Alex DiLallo (7th grade) in the 800 meter run and 100 meter hurdles, Dominic Williams (7th grade) in the 1600 meter run, and Gage Daniel (8th grade) in the 800 meter run. They were all very consistent scorers for the Junior High Raiders.
With all these successes, the Raiders also revitalized North Shelby Pole Vaulting after almost 20 years. Jake Geisendorfer (7th grade) began practicing early in the season with his father, Mike. He received bronze at South Shelby and Palmyra, silver at Highland and took the gold at the LaPlata Relays, helping the team receive their 1st place victory.
Since Jake has begun participating in pole vault, there has been a spark in interest for the event. Gage Daniel (8th grade) began working later in the season and was able to medal in his debut performance at the Highland Relays.
The Junior High Raiders’ coaches, Houston Bichsel and Lauren Gander, are very proud of the Raiders’ hard work and dedication. This exceptional work ethic combined with the promise of a new facility at the school makes the future look very bright for the North Shelby Track and Field program. It’s a great day to be a Raider!
