Blake Metzger was sworn in as a Shelby County Deputy on Friday, May 5, 2023. He was sworn in by 41st Circuit Judge Frederick Paul Tucker.
Deputy Metzger has lived in the Bethel area most of his life.
“I have always looked up to and respect law enforcement,” said Metzger.
Around September of 2022, he got interested in joining law enforcement and knew he wanted to stay local and in Shelby County if possible.
“I wanted to join the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office because I could see the positive impact that the Sheriff’s Office was making on the community,” Deputy Metzger said.
In January 2023, he began academy courses with the Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI) in Columbia, Missouri. This program consisted of 18 weeks of training, which provided him the POST Certification needed to serve in the position he wanted.
Metzger is 23 years old and his plans for the future are to build and maintain a positive relationship with the community and serve as a Deputy Sheriff for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office for many years to come.
