Despite seeing its five-run lead whittled down by the end, North Shelby still held off Macon Co for a 5-4 victory on Friday, May 12, 2023.
Macon Co scored four runs in the failed comeback on a single by Garrett Carman in the sixth, a double by Lucas Herriman in the sixth, and a single by Carman in the seventh.
The Raiders (9-6) earned the victory despite allowing Macon Co to score three runs in the sixth inning. Carman and Herriman all drove in runs in the frame.
North Shelby opened up scoring in the second inning, when Grady Gander singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Casey Shockley earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for NS. The righty lasted four innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out ten and walking one.
Cole Browning threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Browning recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for the Raiders.
Nik Hulett took the loss for Macon Co. The bulldog went six innings, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out five.
North Shelby totaled six hits in the game. Gander and Kaden Hunolt each had multiple hits. Hunolt and Gander each collected two hits to lead NS. The Raiders didn’t commit a single error in the field. Gander had 17 chances in the field, the most on the team.
Carman led Macon Co with two hits in four at bats.
