There has been a lot of talk about rain for seven Sundays if we have rain on Easter. After studying about this it is an old folklore saying that does not always happen. I thought this was one of those years until Rachel said it rained early tis morning when they were doing chores. Today was cloudy and cool.
We were sorry about the loss of Ruth Ann Bowman, who was the daughter of Paul and Irene Durst, and her memorial service was Monday morning. She had a large number of relatives come to be with the family. Lounell, a cousin from Alabama, and Irene’s nephew Mike Marshall from Mississippi attended church with Irene on Sunday. Ruth Ann was a willing worker and well known for her talents, especially her baking and quilting skills and her devotion to her family. We extend sympathy and prayers to her family.
I had another St. Louis visit to the doctor this week and I do enjoy the beautiful spring trip and the beauty of the city. The excitement of crops and gardens being planted is always exciting and I heard another person say this week about so much knowledge that is not left behind when people leave earth. I wish I had listened to more of the old family stories and history from my own family.
Some of you will remember May baskets and how we made them in school to give away. We made our own paper cones and filled them with flowers and delivered them to our mothers and people in Maywood. The day always started with a decorated flagpole. Perhaps it would be good to bring some of these practices that would promote harmony and kindness.
I was sorry to learn of the death of John Inman. John and his wife, the late Mary Ellen Inman owned and operated an art gallery in Quincy, and John did painting and won many awards for his work. I have several painting of his work and enjoy them. He was the father of Brian Inman who many of you watch his weather on WGEM TV. John grew up in Lewis County and graduated from Canton High School.
A note for the area. If you have not removed old items from your cemetery graves, please do so because the lawn mowers are now busy with the work of keeping the landscape nice.
I had a lovely surprise tulip bouquet tonight! They are from Nourished Farms in Maywood, owned by Blake and Megan Powell. Blake is the grandson of our neighbors, Gordon and Sheryl Smyser. The tulips are beautiful, and I have heard that they have thousands of tulips blooming this time of year. Their flower farm has been open since last July, and they have a website about their lovely flower farm!
Enough about the beauty of Spring. There was always a lot of work too. Somehow all the work seemed easier on a beautiful warm day, especially since I can no longer do it! I guess the memory of work is easier than the work itself!
