SHELBYVILLE, Mo. — Several highway and bridge improvements are planned for Shelby County as part of the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Draft 2026–2030 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), now open for public review through June 6.
Among the highlights is a pavement resurfacing project along Missouri Route 15, stretching from the north junction of Route 6 at Edina in Knox County to Route 168 in Shelbyville. The 32-mile project will improve driving conditions and extend the lifespan of the roadway. The contract is scheduled for award in 2027, with a total estimated cost of $1.42 million.
Shelby County will also benefit from a bridge rehabilitation project on U.S. Highway 36, which includes work on bridges A3070 and A3071. The improvements span from Kellogg Avenue near Macon to the Shelby County line near Clarence, affecting both eastbound and westbound lanes. This project, which includes pavement resurfacing, is scheduled for award in September 2025, with construction expected to begin in 2026. The total cost is estimated at $5.63 million and includes both federal and state funding.
In addition to these funded projects, a scoping-phase project is planned for the Middle Fork Salt River bridge on Route 168, located 0.4 mile east of Route BB near Shelbyville. MoDOT is evaluating this structure for future improvements under Job No. NE0214, with estimated costs ranging between $1 million and $2 million. Design work is expected to continue through the end of the decade.
These planned investments aim to improve regional connectivity and support safety and mobility along major routes in Shelby County and the surrounding areas.
MoDOT is seeking public feedback on the draft STIP through June 6, 2025. Residents may comment by email at [email protected], by calling 1-888-ASK-MODOT (275-6636), or online at modot.org.
All comments will be reviewed before the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission makes a final decision on the plan at its July 9, 2025 meeting.
