The Shelby County Elected Officials met on Monday, June 2, 2025 at 8:15 a.m. in the courtroom. Those present were Collector, John Chinn, Commissioners, Ray Bacon, Terry Mefford, County Clerk, Stephanie Bender, Treasurer, Tracy Smith, Assessor, Liz Miles, Circuit Clerk, Tammy Snider and, Prosecuting Attorney, Jordan Force, Judge Greenwell. Presiding Commissioner Terry Helmick joined later.
Eastern Commissioner, Ray Bacon called the meeting to order with an update of where the county is with the jail project
·The delivery of the walls has been pushed back until July.
·Footings should start going in sometime in June
· Macon Electric has been here cutting trees
· The projected completion time is March -April 2026
· Sales tax money is coming in as anticipated
County Clerk Stephanie Bender informed everyone the county has received a grant in the amount of $456,000 to replace windows throughout the building, south and west doors and HVAC.
Updates being performed on the Wi-Fi for the building.
Tammy asked if anything had been done about getting cameras for them to buzz in citizens after 4 pm. Commission informed her they had not checked into it but with the new doors going in this might be a good time to check into this.
John Chinn brought up the audit report that was published in the paper. He found where there was a discrepancy in the programming, but that has been fixed.
Assessor, Liz Miles will be sending out impact notices.
SB190 – Citizens are calling in questioning if the Commission are going to pass this ordinance. We are having the saving checked, and then contacting the citizen to discuss it.
Treasure, Tracy Smith informed everyone that her, Commission, and Stephanie have been discussing direct deposit and taking steps to get it implemented. Hopefully, August will be the first payroll of direct deposit.
County Clerk, Stephanie Bender announced the BOE process is starting.
Commission announced the bridge over the Tiger Fork River is in the process of being replaced.
