Do you know anyone who has been on an African Safari? I do, and they seem so brave to me. I can’t imagine myself traveling through the wilds of Africa in just a little jeep. I can also imagine myself stranded when that jeep breaks down, looking into the face of a lion! The closest I have ever come to a lion is in the zoo and that is plenty close for me.

How good are we at steering clear of the lion that roams around in our spiritual life? 1 Peter 5:8-9 says, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” Satan is always prowling around. We should always be prepared to do battle with him. He plays upon our weaknesses and tries to steal us away from the Lord. What are your weaknesses? Do you see places in your life where the devil is prowling around?

How do we do battle with him? James 4:7-8 says, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you.” Satan is the enemy. We must resist the temptations that he uses against us. The Bible tells us to put on the full armor of God to fight against the devil’s schemes. Ephesians 6:14-17 says, “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Now, when you come face-to-face with the roaring lion, you will know what weapons to use against him.
