Cardinals Lose 73-59 to Clark County

The South Shelby Cardinals hosted the Clark County Indians on Friday, February 13, 2026. The Indians won 73-59.
South Shelby jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two baskets by Peyson Larrick.
After a three by Clark County’s Lukas Weaver, Larrick hit another basket to make it 6-3 with 6:04 left in the first quarter.
Corrick Hunziker and Weaver hit back-to-back buckets to give the Indians a 7-6 lead, but South Shelby’s Colt Schmitz scored to give the lead back to the Cardinals at 8-7 with 5:26 left in the first quarter.
Reid Sammons connected on a three for Clark County to give them a 10-8 lead. A bucket by Cooper Seaton for the Cardinals tied the score at 10.
Sammons followed with back-to-back baskets to give the Indians a 14-10 lead.
Clark County led 15-13 at the end of the first quarter.
The Indians opened the second quarter with four straight points, including a basket by Conner Waples.
South Shelby came right back and scored five straight points, Larrick and Schmitz hit baskets, followed by a free throw from Jace McWilliams to pull the Cardinals to within 19-18 with 5:07 left in the half.
Weaver and Kai Binsbacher hit back-to-back threes, followed by a basket from Weaver, to complete an 8-0 run and build a 27-18 lead with 2:59 left in the second quarter.
Seaton hit two late baskets for South Shelby to pull the Cardinals to within 32-26 at the half.
Kole Lanpher opened the third quarter with a three to pull South Shelby to within 32-29, but the Indians responded with an 10-0 run.
Kole Ross hit a three, followed by a bucket from Hunziker. A three from Weaver and two free throws by Hunziker gave the Indians a 42-29 lead with 5:06 left in the third quarter.
Later in the quarter, Sammons scored two baskets, followed by a three from Wyatt Billings gave the Indians a 52-34 lead with 2:10 left in third quarter.
The Cardinals made a run to close out the quarter. Hudson Gill hit a basket. Lanpher hit a three which was sandwiched in between two baskets by Larrick as South Shelby trailed 55-43 at the end of three quarters.
Billings hit a three to open the fourth quarter for Clark County, but Schmitz answered with a three for the Cardinals to make it 58-46.
Larrick scored with 4:38 left in the game to cut the deficit to 63-53 with 4:38 remaining.
Both Wyatt Davis and Hunziker each scored four points the rest of the way for the Indians to help them maintain a double-digit lead. Clark County held on to win 73-59.
Larrick led the Cardinals with 17 points, followed by Schmitz with 12 points and McWilliams with 11 points.
Weaver led all scorers with 25 points for the Indians, followed by Sammons with 12 points, Hunziker with 11 points, and Billings with 10 points.
The Cardinals, 6-18 overall and 1-4 in the Clarence CC, traveled to Centralia on Tuesday, February 17, and travel to Higbee on Friday, February 20.
