Area Experiences Large Amounts of Rainfall

Rain hit the area last week, leaving many areas flooded. The northern part of Shelby County, experienced extreme flooding.
The rain hit Shelby County on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, going into Thursday morning, June 11.
Merlin Yoder, who lives north of Cherry Box, reported 9.1 inches.
Terresa VanHouten, who lives northeast of Shelbina, reported 8.1 inches.
Jack Kraft reported 7.7 inches of rain in Bethel.
Sand piles were being put on the east side of Judy Mesmer’s home on Thursday morning, to prevent water from coming into her basement.
The water was inches from coming over the North River bridge, just south of Bethel on Highway 15.
Bethel City Clerk Cate Behrens said residential housing on the southeast part of town experienced flooding in the basement.
Behrens also told the Herald there were gravel wash outs in various parts of town.
Other rain totals reported:
Karen Arment reported 7.6 inches northeast of Shelbyville.
North of Epworth, 7.4 inches of rain was reported by Susan Mann.
Scott Gaines reported 7.2 inches north of Epworth.
Maggie Maddex reported 6.8 inches of rain in Shelbyville.
Two miles south of Shelbina, Mike Buckman reported 5.7 inches.
In Clarence, Willie Wood, reported five inches and 9/10.
On the south end of Shelbina, four inches was reported by Charlotte Riley.
