Board Approves Band Room Roof Remodel

Minutes Submitted

The North Shelby Board of Education met Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 6:30 p.m.

Present were: Board President, Shawn McEwen, Board Vice President, Ryan Wiley, Joshlin Yoder, Amy Presson, Travis Belt, Brandy Uhlmeyer and Board Secretary, Shalyn Parsons. Administration Present:

Superintendent, Josh Brummit and Elementary Principal, Jennifer Rich.

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by Board President Shawn McEwen.

The Board President led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Six members were present.   

Ryan Wiley moved to approve the agenda as amended. Brandy Uhlmeyer seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Public Comment

A thank you card from the family of Patsy Mettes was read by Shawn McEwen.   

Consent Agenda

Joshlin Yoder moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented. Brandy Uhlmeyer seconded the motion. Motion carried. Regular meeting minutes from April 21, 2026, were approved. The current month’s bills were approved, check numbers 79804-79926, totaling $88,642.96.

Principal’s Report   

Mr. Daniel shared his report on the high school building. The last day of school was May 14th, and all students qualified for semester grades. There were five students that received exemplary attendance this year. On the last day of school, end-of-year awards were passed out to students. Our FFA Agronomy and Knowledge Teams won the State Contest and will compete at the National Convention next October. Ally Rich and Grady Gander were named the 2026 Prom Queen and King. The high school Spring Band Concert and Art Show was held on April 22nd and was very successful. Graduation was held May 10th. In athletics, the Baseball boys won districts against New Haven and will compete at Sectionals against Valle Catholic here at North Shelby on May 25th. The Boys Track team won the District Meet as a team on May 9th and the Sectional Meet on May 16th. Track had nine individuals and one relay team qualify for State, and they compete May 22nd and 23rd at Jefferson City.    

Ms. Rich shared her report on the elementary building. In grades PreK – 6th, we ended the year with 171 students. There were 10 students with exemplary attendance and 1 with perfect attendance. As of now, we will have 164 students in PK-6 grade next year. There was a DARE graduation for 5th grade students. Korbin Hinshaw and Mason Culler were the essay winners. We started MAP testing out with Run The Halls on April 27th and students finished testing on May 7th. The 6th-grade graduation was held on May 11th, and the Kindergarten Celebration was held on May 12th along with Ag Day. Track and Field Day was held on May 13th. Reigan Parsons, Sarah Parsons, and Haley Hardy were on the committee that planned this for us. We ended the year with an awards assembly on the last day of school at 9:00 am for PK-3rd grade and then followed up at 10:30 am with 4th-5th grade awards.     

Superintendent’s Report

Mr. Brummit shared that Trey has been busy with projects and Tina and Tracy have started waxing floors; another summer project will be taking up the rest of the carpet in some elementary classrooms. Will Dodd has been replacing filters on the roof and next week they will finish the roof over the band room. The financial report was shared.   

New Business

Joshlin Yoder moved to approve Career Ladder for 26-27 school year. Travis Belt seconded the motion. Motion carried.   

Travis Belt moved to approve the Career Ladder plan. Amy Presson seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Ryan Wiley moved to approve the roof remodel over the Band room. Joshlin Yoder seconded the motion. Motion carried.   

Brandy Uhlmeyer moved to adjourn open session and enter executive session. Amy Presson seconded the motion. All members voted in favor of the motion.

Executive Session

A motion was made and seconded to approve the executive minutes from the April 15, 2026, meeting. Motion passed.

A motion was made and seconded to hire Donny Williams as the Cross Country Coach for the 26-27 school year. Motion passed.

A motion was made and seconded to hire Joel Klusmeyer as the JH girls basketball Coach for the 26-27 school year. Brandy Uhlmeyer seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

A motion was made and seconded to hire Jaime Williams and Denise Shockley for 11th grade class sponsors for the 26-27 school year. Motion passed.

A motion was made and seconded to hire Stephanie Penn and Stephanie Eckler for 12th Grade class sponsors for the 26-27 school year. Motion passed. Travis Belt abstained.

A motion was made and seconded to hire Jenny Bradley as FFA Sponsor for the 26-27 school year. Brandy Uhlmeyer seconded the motion. Motion passed.

A motion was made and seconded to hire Amanda Cook as the A+ Coordinator for the 26-27 school year. Motion passed. Amy Presson abstained.

A motion was made and seconded approve the 504 coordinator pay for the 26-27 school year. Travis Belt seconded the motion. Motion passed.

A motion was made and seconded to hire extra duty staff for the 26-27 school year. Motion passed.

A motion was made and seconded to approve the SPED Stipend for the 26-27 school year. Brandy Uhlmeyer seconded the motion.   Roll-call vote as follows: Ryan Wiley – yes, Joshlin Yoder – yes, Travis Belt – yes, Amy Presson – yes, Brandy Uhlmeyer – yes, Shawn McEwen – yes. Motion carried 6-0.

A motion was made and seconded to index the 504 and Sped stipends for the 26-27 school year.  Motion passed.

A motion was made and seconded to hire Leah Glover as the JH Social Studies and PE teacher for the 26-27 school year. Motion passed.

A motion was made and seconded to hire Cassidy Boldt for HS Social Studies for the 26-27 school year. Motion passed.
