NS Ties Two Games, Loses One in Tournament

The North Shelby Lady Raiders played in the Elsberry Pool Play Tournament on Saturday, September 9, 2023.
NS vs. Clopton
North Shelby and Clopton tied 5-5 in the first round of the tournament.
The Lady Raiders got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Harper Copenhaver grounded out, and Marissa McEwen singled, each scoring one run.
North Shelby (3-1-2) added two runs in the third after McEwen singled on an 0-2 count. The Lady Hawks took the lead, 5-4, in the top of the fifth thanks to doubles by Danica Graham, and Rileigh Kuntz.
Andi Belt singled on an 0-2 count, which helped NS tie the game at five in the bottom of the fifth. Adrien Wiley stepped in the circle first for the Lady Raiders, surrendering five hits and three runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking two.
Addy Uhlmeyer and McEwen each collected two hits for North Shelby.
McEwen drove the middle of the lineup, with three runs batted in. They went 2-for-3 on the day. Uhlmeyer stole two bases.
NS stole four bases in the game and turned two double plays in the game.
Lady Raiders vs. Elsberry
The Lady Raiders tied the second-round game against Elsberry, 3-3.
NS opened the scoring in the first after Harper Copenhaver singled, scoring one run.
The Lady Raiders (3-1-2) added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Emme Jones singled, and NS scored on a wild pitch, each scoring one run.
Kenzie Koch stole home, which helped Elsberry tie the game at three in the top of the sixth.
Addy Uhlmeyer stepped in the circle first for the Lady Raiders. She gave up 10 hits, three runs over six innings, striking out two and walking three.
Emma Christine, Jones, Uhlmeyer, Riley Stoneburner, Copenhaver, Marissa McEwen and Bella Donath each collected one hit for North Shelby. Jones and Copenhaver each drove in one run. Copenhaver stole two bases.
The Lady Raiders collected six stolen bases for the game.
The Lady Indians had 10 hits in the matchup.
NS vs. MC
North Shelby had trouble keeping up with Montgomery County in a 16-5 loss.
The Lady Raiders (3-2-2) jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Harper Copenhaver singled, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run.
Montgomery County scored eight runs on four hits to take an 8-3 lead in the top of the second.
Copenhaver started in the circle for the Lady Raiders. She surrendered eight hits, 11 runs (nine earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking six.
Leadoff hitter Addy Uhlmeyer led NS with two hits in four at bats. Copenhaver drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Lady Raiders with two runs batted in. The number three hitter went 1-for-3 on the day.
