The South Shelby Lady Birds hosted Mark Twain on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, and lost 14-4 in five innings.
Mark Twain scored three runs in the top of the first inning and five runs in the top of the second inning to build a quick 8-0 lead after two innings.
The Lady Birds were trailing 11-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth inning. Gracynn Lanpher led off with a walk and stole second base. Bella Cook followed with a single, followed by a walk to Kylie Million to load the bases with no one out. Two batters later, Ava Eleazarraraz grounded out to score the first run for the Lady Birds. Cook later scored on a passed ball and an RBI groundout by Avery Gough made it 11-3.
Mark Twain added three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 14-3 lead.
South Shelby added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning but could not add another run as the game ended with a 14-4 loss in five innings.
Cook had the only hit for the Lady Birds.
Million pitched two innings, allowing eight runs, one earned run, on two hits and two walks. Kinley Maddex pitched three innings, allowing six unearned runs on four hits. She walked three and struck out three batters.
The Lady Birds dropped to 1-8 with the loss.
